Fetterman Response to House GOP Debt Default Proposal Including Additional SNAP Work Requirements

WASHINGTON, DC – Pennsylvania U.S. Senator John Fetterman on Monday released the below statement following news that increased work requirements for the SNAP program were on the table in debt default talks:

“It’s punitive adding more work requirements for SNAP. SNAP already has work requirements. I didn’t come here to take food away from hungry kids, and that’s exactly what this proposal would do; a proposal that would make Scrooge blush.

“I’ve never met a SNAP recipient who aspires to stay on SNAP for life. Let’s end the games, pay our bills, and get on with the important work people sent us here to do.”
